Onions

Greetings!

Wow. What a fabby day!. It's been like Summer here. And today has been just  great.
300 Onions in! Radar Troy and Electric. Ones for over winter and early Summer harvest.
Just wish I could have spent a few more hours out there but work calls. Oh and I got a final couple of courgettes and a few more toms.

I have a huge weed pile which I'm going to turn into a big bonfire on Nov 5th and celebrate not only the saving of Parliament, King and Country hurrah! but also a wonderful first season on the Plot.

Some trials and tribulations but also some wonderful successes and overall a great and satisfying year.

I hope you all have had a good one too!

Now it's digging time............

Keep on enjoying!

Late Summerness

Greetings
As I said....diggin! Been diggin. First 10'...maybe 15' done and dressed with a fine layer of the well rotted stuff!

Onions are the future. Profound I know but it's the truth. I'm gonna plant me several 100 over Wintering variety ones 'cos the 100 I put in this season are nearly all gone. Cri! They're dirt cheap and easy to grow and it's what we use...a lot.

Officially fed up of runner beans....I mean what is the point? Gonna grow me some yella and red and purpl ones. Much more fun.

Just done me  a vegetable stew with homegrown courgettes, tomatoes, garlic and onions. Ratatouillie by any other name.  Yum....I hope.

Seeds....gotta start choosing what I'm going to plant for next year. Any suggestions or ideas?

This year has been great....I just know that's it just going to get better and better.

Keep on enjoying!

Busy Boy!

Greetings.

Well aren't we having an Indian Summer? It's bloomin lovely and I've been busy enhancing the plot.  I've now placed my water butt on three pallets ( I love pallets) to give it a bit of oomph when it comes to watering next year. I've now just got to sort filling it!. I need to source some pipe and bits to ensure I get all the water from the shed roof. No more filling little plastic bottles! Yeehah!!

Still getting a few toms and courgettes and one more pumpkin which I'm letting grow. We'll see how big she gets.

The rest of the Polt is quite bare now - just have to take down my beanpoles - and start digging again.

Keep enjoying!

A bit cloudy....

Greetings!

....today!

Well the season for me seems to be drawing to a close. The nights are becomming shorter (it's dark by half eight!) and the tentacles of Autum are touching the last of the Summer sun. The Plot has been quite magnificent with an abundance of great veg. I still have beans and courgettes and beets a plenty to take and one remaining pumpkin thats comming along nicely. In the greenhouse I'm just getting the last of my Toms. Chillies and peppers have been a bit poor ....oh well. I'll try again next year.

Unfortunately periods of neglect have allowed copious ammounts of weed to grow! Darn it! I've had a go at some but I have a coupple of hardy patches to sort. And I'll have to start digging the Plot again to make it all nice for winter and ready for a nice layer of vraic. Bi cri! And my manure heap has rotted down nicely. Not sure if another year of rotting is needed before spreading as the lot I put on green seems to have caused no harm.

So all in all a very good first year. I've got plenty of rhubarb and beans and courgettes in the freezer and I've still got onions and loads of garlic in the shed. I'll make me a gardner yet!

I have promised you some photos so I'm off out today to get some and to show you how the Plot fared.

Thanks for following my exploits. I plan to grow more exotic stuff next year so watch this space and although things will slow down (if not actually stop) over winter I'll be pottering about doing jobs and keeping you updated as to what I've bee up to. I'm going to overwinter some onions ( cos we use them lots) and we'll see about what else takes my fancy.

In the meantime keep on enjoying, keep on following and abitot for now.
