Mid week madness....

Greetings to Y'all Over The Pond!
Yes shallot friends we have hit the Big Time. East meets West. Helloooooooo America! U S A U S A !
How the hell did you find me? Keep it up and my map of the World will truely light up. I get stats showing where folks are from and the little mappy thing fills in. T'wonderful this interwebby thingy.

Anyway enough of this and onto mid week visit to The Plot. Its just amazing what  a little sun and warm does for our veggie friends. Garlics continue to put on inches. Shallots are sprouting green bits and peas and beans are becominag a mini forrest. And ma spuds , the little darlings, are doing their bit too! But not as well as the farmers down the road but then again they are professional spuds them  eh! I'm a tadge envious..... A quick watering and I'm off. I'll soon have to be going every day to check  on things bi cri!
Must dash as I have to pick up the family from the aero station as they have been away to see one of those  big centers of learning that will seriously reduce my wealth for the next three years. Kids eh!

Mundane Day....

Greetings Weekday Shallotists
Oh M G! People continue to drop by which is absolutely Brill! I don't really know how I'm going to cope with Spring and Summer cos things are sprouting everywhere you look! I just hope that the critters don't eat everything like last year. The amount I'm sowing will hopefully  provide for all with some left over for me. I read my shallotment Bible the other day and I generally seem to be doing what the Good Book preaches. I haven't got any fruit trees yet so I don't have to do any pruning so that saves me a job.
Its mild and claggy if thats a word. I just hope the blight stays away!
Keep up the good work everybody.

Foggy times....

Greetings Maluvvies!
Well what a mixed bag we've had this weekend! Fog and mist and the like. The ole Jaloppy hates the damp and wouldn't start. Bugre!Went down the Plot yesterday - and I just wasn't in the mood. But spirits risen with good growth on my garlic and shallots begining to show. And beans and peas both shooting well in the grenhouse. So I trudged home and did a bit if catching up in my garden. Couldn't do much anyway as I had to go and meet the boys for beer and rugby. Well done to all the winners! ( It was a bloomin try!)

It's Sunday and shock horror I have decided to stay at home and do some admin...tax returns and the like. And I'm out to lunch as well so all said it's been a pretty unproductive and lazy weekend. Suns almost out so hopefully next weekend will be lurvely for lottists and all systems go!

In the meantime have a good week and see you soon.

Today....not yesterday

Greetings !
I'm going ruddy mad! Yesterday was not Monday ...obviously. It was Tuesday. Clear? Great!
Sunny yesterday and rain today ....what's happening with the Worlds weather? But never mind its good for the Plot. It's great that I've lost a day though...makes the weekend come quicker!

Thought I'd update my profile with a nice picture. I do bit of walking in my spare time. Not that I have much.

Short and Sweet!

Monday withdrawl....

Greetings to all  and especially my Foreign Shallot Friends!

Cold Turkey! Its horrible after Christmas and even worse when you can't be at the place you want to be. I know...it's only been a day since I was at the Plot but how I miss it so! Had a little tickle yesterday..two Camelia bushes for a bargain price so I got a sort of garden fix.

By the way - my two Russians have turned into three and have also encouraged two Germans to join them. I'm Global or is it Viral? Ahh don't rightly know.  But Hello and enjoy the wonders of the Shallotment. I am always open to comments and suggestions so don't be shy. Join in!

Spring sowing....

Greetings Shallot Folk!
It seems like Spring! Warm, sunny...crikey its almost Summer! Yesterday it was a bit wet but I got rid of the bath with Steve's help. We had a smashing time and within minutes it was but shards.  Sowed some chillies and have three varieties in. Today I got the bath dumped and finished off the fence....well almost ...just need to close off the corner to critter proof it. Planted the wifes bulbs - a load of Glads (along the fence)  and some Daliahs (in front of the shed). She's got some other things but I need to soak them and have yet to decide where they're going to go. All in all the plot will look quite pretty in the Summer. It's all comming along very nicely. I know ... I keep saying that but it really is! I've only got the bonfire patch to sort and to finish the  anti Peter fence on the Eastern border. And then theres the fruit cage to build....Steve is aware of the job and seems quite keen to get stuck in . Im toying with a moveable cage but then most fruits once in stay in so maybe static is the best. Olly came up trumps as I mentioned the price of netting. He's only got a roll of the stuff about two miles long! Top Shalloting!!
With all my free wood I might just cover the whole plot.

Also bought me a new thing. It's a hoe with three prongs - great for breaking up the soil and wait....turn it over and its a push pull hoe too. Two for one! Result.

The weather man reckons that it's going to hit 18 by the end of the week and what with the days getting longer I'll soon be out and about after work watching my world grow. I can't wait!

I don't know if any of my rambleings are helping anyone out there but if they are I'm glad. Share the Joy!

Not a lotment.....

Greetings Fellow Enthusiasts of Shallotment!

And Nastrovia! to my Russian followers. Good God..two hits from Russia!  Heloooo Russia! Dix points!
Now my wonderment is exhausted  (unless new Russian friends actually leave a comment) I'll move onto more interesting stuff.

Yet another beauuutiful day here in Jerri and so much to do on the Plot. Bonfire  has done its stuff but with more digging done today its almost as big again! That said I'm almost almost done with digging up turf and the like. Put another 10' of anti Peter fence up. Getting there slow but sure and oohhh about another 50' to go. Then there's the other side to do but hell I'm going to leave that for another year. Sowed some Spring Onions and Leeks. Narce! Things are revving up. It'll be getting warmer an warmer soon and the weeks will just fly in and with stuff growing apace I'm going to be as busy as a mad thing.  Need to really start thinking what I want to grow 'cos as we all know there's really no point in growing stuff you're not interseted in eating unless of course you can sell it on.  Talking of selling I really want to get a Shallotment Club going and get everyone to chip in so we can have a little shop or something and then everyone with any excess can sell it.  Anyway thats for later once I've got upand running.  Gotta walk first! So for now its all prepwork and watch and wait.

Oh and I used my Grappin today just to run over the Plot. It's not exactly for that but it worked brilliantly!

Rhubob! Rhubob!

Greetings Followers of Shallotment!
I know I know I've been negligent but I've had to squeeze in a bit of actual work this weekend. Anyway here I am and despite the inconveniences I managed to do the usual run on Saturday am followed by a trip to my dads where he has a rhubarb patch. Four crowns later and I'm off back to the Plot where four have turned into 15! Not only lots of Rhubob but also some greenhouse glass ( to replace the couple of panes that got broken in the winds.)and a potato banker! Result.
Sunday I set fire to my pile of rubbish and got rid of most of it. Had to leave it to it as work loomed. Plot begining to look almost ready . Bring it on! Summer that is.
Must dash but I've got the next two days off so lots more to do. Fruit cage...........

Sunday 5 February 2012

it's all good....

Saturday only got better...sorry Scotland!
Snow?? Not here. It rained quite a lot last night and its turned out quite nice. A slight breeze and mixed cloud/sun but mainly sunny and the temp has risen nicely.
So nicely that I have given my new old spade an outing. Well what can I say...joyous! I dug my half plot in an hour and a half! Stunning! Every shed should have one.
Sowed a tray of peas and French beans in the greenhouse. Thought about sowing leeks but decided not to. I think I'll put them in next week.
Took the rest of the day off to watch Ireland -Wales. Bad luck Ireland!
That's it folks.
Carry on enjoying!

It's the WEEKEND!!!!

Greetings Shallotmentalists!

Yes it's here! and we love the weekends don't we? Yes we do!

Its been a beautiful day - clear skys - sunny - warm!!!!! Yes people believe it! I can't believe that they've predicted snow for tonight. I laugh in the face of snow although it has been pretty cold all week. I went and did the poo run this morning and the horses water barrel had an inch of ice on it. That's cold for us folks yes indeedie!

On arrival at the Plot poo pretty frozen too. And the ground too so for the first time in absolutely ages I didn't do any digging. Pretty releived really as I still have a sore arm which needs some time to recover. Needless to say I haven't been lazy as I put the word out last week that I was after stuff. You know any stuff that migtht be useful on the Plot. And the freeer the better! Well my mates haven't let me down. Paul has given me a 5 gallon water can but as a little surprise there was a spade waiting too. Well not just any old spade ( to the uninitiated maybe)  but a Jersey Spade. I'm made up. She's a bit rusty and needs a good oil but when I'm done she will be a thing of beauty. For those who don't know ( or probably care) she has a nice wide face and a T handle. Perfect!

And the good times just keep on rolling.... Bob came up trumps with a shed full of wood. I got three trailers worth  1x1, 2x2, 4x1, 4x2 and countless other bits and pieces but he kept hidden the best til last when we uncovered six 10' lengths of 2 x 2. Perfect for a fruit cage. Overjoyed! All I need now is an old fishing net and I'm sorted.

And finally....ta ta tata ta tarrrr.....a Grappin! As every Crappaud knows ,an implement celebrated and feted, envied and coveted and worth it's weight in Gold! A special four fingered rake used to gather the Vraic. My joy knows no bounds!!!!!!!

I'm quite overcome. It's been a wonderful day. Can't wait til tomorrow.
